NIA Begins Holiday Season with 13th Avenue Lights and Tree Lightings

NIA Community Services Network teamed up with State Senator Andrew Gounardes, City Council Member Justin Brannan, and Investors Bank to sponsor the holiday lights along 13th Avenue from 68th street through 83rd street in Dyker Heights for the second consecutive year, despite budget constraints brought on by COVID-19.

“We are so proud to continue this tradition for the community and bring some holiday cheer, along with a message of hope for the future during this tough time. To all whose lives have been touched by illness and loss, we want you to know that NIA is here to assist you with your quality of life and community issues,” said NIA President Michael A. Bové and CEO Mary Anne Cino in a joint statement.

NIA, Gounardes, Brannan, and Investors Bank have also teamed up again this year to bring two community Christmas trees, one at Dyker Park, on 86th Street and 14th Avenue, and one at the Shore Road Park Gazebo, on Shore Road and 90th street. Last year, hundreds of community members attended the festive ceremonies to kick off the holiday season. Although there will be no in-person lighting ceremonies due to the pandemic, the symbolism of this special time will shine brightly for all to see!
