What we do

NIA Community Service Network's mission, to strengthen and empower children, families, and communities through comprehensive programming and vital human services, is evidenced through our vital work that directly supports and enriches lives every day in New York City. NIA has developed important partnerships and programs that are designed to help improve the quality of life for all youth, families, and seniors.

Each year, we serve over 15,000 children and their families through after school programs, two Beacon Community Centers, summer day camps, cultural arts programming, youth and family counseling services, parent education workshops, community assistance and events, and referral services. We also serve thousands of senior citizens through our senior picnics, senior proms, health and nutrition initiatives, and support programs.

I am very happy that there is an after school program for working parents, and I will always advocate for quality programming in our neighborhoods.

Building communities

NIA after school programs foster positive youth development, teach new skills, and encourage exploration and learning. We also provide information, assistance or referral to government services, and benefits available to the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and caregivers.

NIA organizes community and family events, including a Halloween Spooktacular and Community Awards Dinner, which applauds local business owners, law enforcement, community agencies, and educators. We incorporate community service projects into all youth programs, bringing program participants into local food pantries, animal shelters, hospitals, senior centers, and gardens. We also develop leaders within our communities, and welcome community members and local students into our programs as volunteers and interns.

Our new after school program, run by NIA, is thriving. The students are not only involved in a range of activities from sports to the arts, they also get assistance with schoolwork.
