2nd Annual NIA Dance Festival
The 2nd Annual NIA Dance Festival was also held recently on June 1st! NIA Program Supervisor Kevin Richtback worked closely with Director of Operations Vera Ekht, and Program Supervisor Patrick Lafontant to put it all together at IS 239, Mark Twain. There were 250 performers from 12 NIA sites that participated this year! Over 600 parents, family, and friends, along with many of the NIA leadership team, came to cheer on all of our participants.
The IS 281 NIA Dance Team kicked off the night with a very impressive sequence of numbers and a few solo performances, while Director Leonard Campbell of IS 303 did an amazing job as the MC for the evening.
The first half of the evening featured many different styles of dance for the audience to enjoy. PS 705 played some crowd favorites that got everyone clapping along in their seats. IS 228 came on strong with their Varsity Dance Team, which performed a wonderfully choreographed sequence, with the members all in sync, followed by the JV team.
Next, PS 30 danced to a compilation of songs that got the crowd on their feet! Then PS 176 came out with their talented group. Finally, before the intermission, two dancers from IS 239 ended the first half of the evening on a high note.
After intermission IS 281 performed one last time and was followed by PS 185 and PS 216.
Then, PS 95’s team The NIA Breakers all got to show off their break dancing skills, followed by the wonderful students of PS 179.
Lastly, our hosts for the evening, IS 239 Mark Twain, finished off the Dance Festival with a beautiful group piece to round off the night. A huge thank you to them for allowing us to use their space and put on our 2nd Annual Dance Festival!
