7 Free NYC Family Events To Celebrate This Halloween

The perfect fall weather for families to be out and about has finally arrived just in time for the spookiest part of the year: Halloween. Start your celebrations off with a BOO-m at any of these family-friendly events across Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island!

BROOKLYN

1. Get Spooky at NIA’s Spooktacular

October 30th | 11am-4pm | Dyker Heights

NIA’s 6th Annual Spooktacular is back this year and will be held outside our main office at 6614 11th Avenue between 66th & 67th Streets in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. This is a free street festival held on 10/30 from 11 am to 4pm that will feature a costume contest, crafts, costumed characters, treats, and a kid’s concert by Danny Weinkauf and His Red Pants Band.

2. Coney Island Children’s Halloween Festival and Parade

October 30th | 11am-2pm | Maimonides Park

Start your Halloween celebrations at Maimonides Park, where you’ll find magic shows, bounce houses, caricature art, arts & crafts, and special performances by the Brooklyn United Marching Band. There will also be a family-friendly Halloween parade! Everybody ages 3-14 years old who participates in the parade automatically gets a two-hour unlimited free pass ride wristband for Luna Park in Coney Island, so the fun can continue afterward!

3. NIA’s Halloween Festival at Owl’s Head Park

October 31st | 1-5pm | Owl’s Head Park

NIA’s free Annual Halloween Festival at Owl’s Head Park in Bay Ridge is back and better than ever this year! It will feature a giant maze, kid’s concert by Danny Weinkauf and His Red Pants Band, costume contest, treats, crafts, photo stations with blow-up characters, and more!

4. Come Dance at BKLYN BOO! BOOgie Wonderland

October 30th | 11am-4pm | Albee Square

The BOOgie Wonderland Wonders band will play Earth, Wind & Fire covers, amongst other 70s Boogie hits, in Downtown Brooklyn for ghosts and ghouls of all ages to boogie down to! The famous DJ Boogie Blind, who has DJed for Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Jim Jones, Jean Grae, and Pharoahe Monch will also be performing. There will also be a costume contest and more! 5. Spooktastic Wellness Event

October 30th | 4-6pm | 34th Ave and 77th St, Queens

2nd Story Pilates and Yoga has partnered up with 34th Ave. Open Streets to offer a one-of-a-kind Halloween event for families throughout Queens. Wear a costume and get ready for a spooky afternoon of yoga, games, prizes, and more!

6. Jackson Heights Halloween Parade

October 31st | 12pm | Jackson Heights

Come be a part of NYC’s largest Halloween parade! Join hundreds of families at 89th Street and 37th Avenue to march down 37th Avenue with local school marching bands and high-profile community figures. Thousands of goodie bags will be given out when the parade reaches its destination! More details here.

7. Wicked Walker: Haunted House and Family Fun

October 29th | 3-6:30pm | Walker Park

How brave are you? Head over to the haunted house at Walker Park to find out! And if the haunted house looks a little too haunted, there will also be a plethora of other activities to keep the whole family entertained, including but not limited to a screening of Halloween Town, the Disney classic, and tons of arts & crafts activities. There will also be a Halloween costume competition with spooky prizes given out, so be sure to wear a costume!
